I am a firm believer that everyone has their own path in life. I have always believed that everything happens for a reason. We are meant to touch certain people and experience certain trials. Living as a Catholic in Utah Valley was definitely a trial. My faith was tested in ways I didn’t know were possible. But through these trials, I learned the importance of staying true to yourself, accepting differences, and respecting others. I also learned that it is okay if a few people don’t like you. My time at UVU was the first time that I had been rejected without being given the chance to show who I truly was. This was one of the most valuable lessons I learned. There will be people who will automatically label you based on prejudice. And they aren’t worth your time. There is a quote from Dita Von Teese that sums this up perfectly: “You can be the ripest, juiciest peach in the world, and there will still be someone out there who hates peaches.” In difficult times it is important to remember who you are. You are perfect. You are the ripest peach in the world. And if you happen to meet someone who hates peaches, just remember that you shouldn’t try to change into an apple to meet their standards. You are perfect just as you are with your beliefs and your views.
