The end of the school year got me like….
3 weeks and counting!!! Ok, technically 4, but the last week of high school doesn’t really count.
It is so hilarious because the seniors think that they are just sooooooooooooo done with school. No kids, your teachers are soooooooooooo done with school, ha ha. I was walking down the hall the other day, a classic disheveled mess. Likely I was holding 3 or 4 stacks of 100+ papers, probably hadn’t washed my hair in 3 days, wearing skinny jeans with tennis shoes, and some polo that is way too big for me. Another teacher passes by and the following conversation ensues:
“Hey Brooke! How are you?”
“Oh I’m good. How about yourself?”
“Good. You tired?”
“That would be the understatement of the century, you?”
And that was it, we went on our way, ha ha.
But, WE CAN DO IT!!! We are almost there! We had a great, last new teacher meeting this week and it was wonderful. They gave us pizza, cute notes from our students, and just let us celebrate for a minute. It was such a great time to relax and look back on this year.
Teaching is HARD work. Kids are HARD work. Sometimes you have to take biiiiig huuuuuge deeeeep breaths because after giving kids a SELF assessment to see if THEY remember the material to prepare them for THEIR upcoming quiz [key word there is SELF] you come back from the bathroom [after holding your bladder for an inhuman time of literally 4 hours] and see a handful of them copying each other’s notes and you think you might lose it…. But then you have a student come in after school to check on their grade and say, “Mrs. Davies, I hear this is your first year of teaching.” and I say “No, my second, but my first here.” Then this cute little sophomore says, “Whoa, you are doing an amazing job! Anyways, see ya.” And you literally want to squeeze this kid, and their parents, and their relatives, and their dog and say THANK YOU FOR BEING SO NICE!!!!! Then it’s like, ok, I got this. I can do this. 3 weeks!!
Overall, it’s been a great year at Timpanogos and I’ve been so blessed to be here. I have loved all of the places I’ve taught. Whether it was Orem High student teaching, last year at Provo High, or this year at Timp, there are amazing educators, students, and families everywhere that make this a very fun career. Aaaaaaaannnnddd the Summer vacations don’t make it too bad either 😉
Good luck fellow teachers in the next few weeks! You can do this!
